Emirates worked with Dubai Health Authority to be the first airline to carry out Covid 19 testing in the check in area, of terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport on Wednesday, for those travelling on a service to Tunisia.
Passengers underwent a blood test administered by the Dubai Health Authority before boarding the aircraft, and results were available within 10 minutes!
Emirates have said the testing was successful, but sadly is not immediately available for widespread use. However they are working on plans to up-scale this "this will enable us to conduct on-site tests and provide immediate confirmation for Emirates passengers travelling to countries that require COVID-19 test certificates." - Adel Al Redha,Emirates chief operating officer.
With airlines at huge threat from revenue losses, they must look for ways to get air travel started again as soon as lock down ends, this quick style testing could be the future to offer passengers confidence and also convince governments to open borders!
There is hope for us all yet!
