One destination that seems to pop up on the majority of wish lists and dream destinations is the Maldives. The Maldives is a world famous destination for celebrities, honeymooners, but also (less commonly associated with) families. Part of the draw to the Maldives is that the group of islands are at risk of completely disappearing! These islands are on the lowest elevation in the world, being just an average height of four feet above sea level, so this group of islands COULD be gone in the next century.
When considering our own honeymoon, we were actually steered away from the Maldives, personally enjoying a lively atmosphere and late night entertainment we were advised that the Maldives may not deliver the buzz we desired. However it certainly has not left our bucket list and we would love to pair it with a more exciting adventure full destination, also after our new addition this year we may find that a more relaxing break of peace and quite is what we are in desperate need of!
There are lots of different ways to include the Maldives into a multi-destination itinerary but the perfect pairings for the Maldives include Sri Lanka or indeed Dubai.
So why go to the Maldives?
- Relax on white sand beaches
- Swim with Sharks
- Dive into a Coral Reef
- Enjoy water sports
- Relish in the local cuisine
- Pamper yourself in Spa therapies
- Watch bioluminescent water under the stars
How do you get to the Maldives and when to go?
You can currently fly directly to the Maldives from the UK, although the flights are more limited and expensive, outside of this you will always need to stop off and popular locations include Dubai and Doha (in Qatar). The flight duration is approximately 10 hours and when you do land in Male (the capital) you will then need to take a short boat or sea plan transfer to your chosen island. Please note sea planes only operate in sun light hours.
Emirates Airlines flies from Heathrow or Gatwick to Malé via Dubai.
Sri Lankan Airlines flies from Heathrow to Malé direct or via Colombo.
Qatar Airways(BA Partnered Airline) flies four times a week from Heathrow to Malé via Qatar.

Visiting the Maldives in January
With plenty of sunshine and warmth, this is a great time for a beach holiday. There is also great visibility for diving and snorkelling. This is a very popular time for travelling and booking in advance is advised.

Visiting the Maldives in February - March
These are the driest months, with warm temperatures, low humidity and great visibility for diving and snorkelling. This is a very popular time for travelling and booking in advance is advised.

Visiting the Maldives in April
Another good month to travel, with plenty of sunshine and good water visibility; however, there is a slightly increased risk of rain, especially towards the end of the month.

Visiting the Maldives in May - September
These months are still warm with long periods of sunshine, but rain is more likely and there is a risk of storms. In addition, the presence of plankton means diving visibility is slightly reduced. However, lower prices and attractive offers make it a great value time to visit and August in particular is still a popular month to travel.
Events & Festivals
Independence Day (26th July): The Maldives' independence is celebrated in style each year, with various festivities taking place, including parades and performances.

Visiting the Maldives in October - November
As with the preceding months, warm temperatures and long periods of sunshine are balanced with an increased chance of rain and storms. October and November are a great time to see whale sharks and manta rays, which come to feed on the plankton. There are plenty of great offers to take advantage of at this time of year, making it a great value time to visit.

Visiting the Maldives in December
December is warm with long periods of sunshine, but there is an increased likelihood of rain and storms. Hotels usually continue great offers until just before the Christmas peak, so earlier in the month is a good value time to travel.
